Location & access

We meet in the 1st Floor Hall at the Rivercourt Methodist Church, King Street, Hammersmith on Thursdays from 7:10pm to 8:20pm

The church is on the corner of King Street and Rivercourt Road (W6 9JT).

Entry to the meeting is via the side door in Rivercourt Road - to the left of the door is an entryphone - please buzz 'First Floor' for entry

The nearest underground station is Ravenscourt Park (District Line) but Hammersmith (District, Hammersmith & City, Circle and Piccadilly is a 10 minute walk along King Street. The area is well served by buses - check TfL for details relevant to you - and there is some on-street car parking locally but you will probably have to hunt around for a space.

Because of the Covid situation we are required to check everyone's temperature on entry (hand held monitor) and record contact details (first name and telephone number - destroyed after 3 weeks)

We socially distance in the meetings, masks may be worn.

Until restrictions are removed there will be no refreshments offered and no fellowship on the premises afterwards although some do go on to a very good Thai place nearby

Group Conscience 22 July

1. It was agreed unanimously to discontinue the online access to the meeting. Although some people had tried to join by phone/online the hybrid arrangement was not a success.

2. Following the recent decision to extend the meeting by ten minutes there was a discussion concerning modifying the number and length of readings. The areas under discussion were:

a. To remove the reading 'Our Programme' from the introductory suite of readings (retaining 'The Problem' and 'The 12 Steps'). This was broadly agreed but not voted on. Matter carried forward to next GC.

b. To abbreviate the reading rota on the 1st (The Steps), 2nd (Tools of Recovery) and 4th (The Traditions) Thursdays of the month. It was proposed that the guideline should be between one and two pages of the Green Book (say 3-4 minutes/4-5 paragraphs) to be decided and announced by the Secretary. This was broadly agreed but not voted on. Matter carried forward to next GC.

c. In order to make the meeting more deliberately welcoming to newcomers, it was proposed that the Secretary be empowered to skip the rota reading for that week, move straight to meditation and quiet time so as to extend the time for general sharing, perhaps to begin with an invited impromptu Chair as a way of helping a newcomer feel welcomed and given a broader introduction to members experience of SAA. This item was controversial and some members present felt this was a matter that should be discussed by a larger group (only 6 present on this occasion - 2 longstanding). In view of the perceived reactions, the proposer wished to withdraw the proposal. To be considered further, this item would need to be reintroduced.

3.Since the meeting was chaired by a temporary Secretary, no date for the next GC was proposed.

Thank you and hope to see you at our meeting.
